Frequently Asked Questions
Everybody has questions when it comes to counseling.
I get it, reaching out is hard! Finding a therapist that feels like a good fit can feel daunting. Let me answer some of the questions I get most often. If you don’t see your question here, please reach out and ask!

Each session is 50 minutes.
We will work together throughout the counseling journey to decide how frequently we should meet. I find that meeting once per week to start off is extremely beneficial in helping us get traction toward your goals. We often decrease frequency as clients find healing, but will decide together when and how to do this. I understand the time and financial commitments of counseling and am sensitive to my clients’ needs to balance these factors!

Unfortunately, this is not possible to answer before beginning. Counseling is a personal experience that is tailored to a client’s specific needs, circumstances, and goals. Depending on specific circumstances and how much a clients works to apply things discussed in counseling between sessions, some clients feel that they have met their counseling goals in 6-12 sessions, while others choose to continue counseling longer term.

During your first appointment, we'll review important policies, answer any questions you have, discuss what is bringing you to counseling and your history, then work together to develop goals for counseling. We will learn more about each other and make sure that it will be a good fit for both of us. This is a lot to cover, and sometimes it takes a couple of sessions to adequately cover everything.
When meeting with an adolescent for the first time, I ask for the parents (both whenever possible) to join us at the beginning of the first session to review important policies, discuss confidentiality issues with adolescent counseling, and gather a brief history and goals. Then I try to meet one-on-one with just the adolescent for the last part of the session to begin building rapport and getting a better understanding of their perspective.

My rates are $110 per 50 minute session.
I do not accept insurance. My clients self-pay (cash, check, credit, or HSA card) at the time of session.
However, many of my clients are able to collect reimbursement for their counseling expenses through their insurance company.
I would recommend calling your insurance provider to ask about your out-of-network psychotherapy coverage. Here are questions you can ask your insurance provider:
• Do I have mental health coverage for out-of-network mental health counselors?
• If so, what is the reimbursement rate for one hour psychotherapy (billing code 90837)?
• Is there a yearly session limit?
• Do I need a referral or preauthorization?
• How do I submit claims?

I currently see clients Tuesday through Thursday for both in-person and Telehealth appointments. I have limited evening hours (Wednesdays only) and cannot guarantee after-school or evening hours. Depending on your flexibility, I am usually able to schedule new clients within 2 weeks.

You can contact me by phone, text, email, or through the client portal (existing clients).
I maintain office hours by phone Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM. However, because I am not able to answer the phone when I am with a client, it can sometimes be difficult to reach by phone. You may leave a detailed message on my private voicemail and I will return your call as soon as I am able. If you are unable to reach me and feel that you can't wait for a return your call, please contact your family physician, the suicide hotline (text or call 988), or go to the nearest emergency room.
Please note, that text and email are not secure forms of communication, so please use caution when sharing any private information. In order to protect your privacy, I will only text/reply to text messages with administrative content such as appointment scheduling.
